“This year’s event attracted more people than last year’s,” said Celia Belt, Co-Founder of the Moonlight Fund Inc. “We are so excited to see more interest in our cause and I can only see growth from here. I anticipate that next year’s event will be even larger, as we grow in our efforts and show our donors how much we are helping these survivors.”

Sponsors for the Evening of Enchantment gala were Southern Wealth Management, Texas Community Bank, Global Fuel, Zachry and Penguin Suits. Donors included Americus Diamond, Rivers Edge Gallery, Antelope for Africa Safaris, Gunslinger, the Élian Hotel and many more.

Attendees, board members and sponsors were not only able to share in the Fund’s gift-giving legacy and enjoy wonderful entertainment, but also meet some of the many burn survivors that the Moonlight Fund has helped since its inception.

Iraq War veteran and nationally recognized speaker and author Shilo Harris was one of the burn and blast survivors attending the gala. He showcased and autographed copies of his famous book Steel Will, which details his inspiring and difficult journey of recovery after being severely injured in Iraq. He met the volunteers of the Moonlight Fund in 2007 during his recovery at the burn unit at the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) and has remained not only a supporter for the organization but also for many survivors.

Matt Deller, an active duty military member, was another burn survivor attending the event. Deller suffered third-degree burns after an accident in his home. After a long recovery, he met The Moonlight Fund volunteers and decided to join them and support burn survivors and their families. Deller has not only made a commitment to support burn survivors and their families through The Moonlight Fund, but has also decided to re-enlist the military and continue serving his country.

Event planner and designer Hillary Swindell, who also serves as the Administrative Assistant for Moonlight Fund Inc. worked many months to ensure the event would be a success. “An Evening of Enchantment was a sheer delight to organize and design. I am very passionate about our cause and helping these survivors and I was honored to have had the opportunity to design an event to entertain our supporters, sponsors and those we serve.”

During this year, Moonlight Fund has provided more than $400,000 in assistance to burn and blast survivors in Texas. In the coming months, The Moonlight Fund Inc. will focus on organizing and executing healing retreats for survivors and their families, providing monetary support for their recovery as well as providing financial aid for their continued education. The donations to survivors in 2015 are projected to reach a record figure in addition to invaluable hours of strong emotional support, care, commitment and love. This Texas-based charity is on the road to expanding its aid to more States throughout the Country with the goal for these survivors to not only receive support, but know they are not alone in their long journey for recovery.

About The Moonlight Fund Inc.

Moonlight Fund Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 1998 in San Antonio, TX by Celia Belt and fellow burn survivor Henry Coffeen lll, the staff at the Burn Unit at the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) and executives at Ernst & Young.

It provides financial, emotional and in-kind assistance to burn and blast survivors and their families.

In Texas alone, Moonlight Fund Inc. supports more than 500 people every year.

Moonlight Fund Inc. is the only organization of its kind, offering services from the onset of an injury, through rehab and on into the patient and families’ new lives. They have helped military and civilian survivors in many ways including paying for their medical bills, providing financial aid to finishing their college degrees, building and furnishing homes and most importantly providing a support system when they most desperately need it.

Guided by the principle “We’ll Measure Our Success… by the Lives we Touch,” Moonlight Fund Inc. focuses on maintaining operation costs at a minimum so the majority of the funds go to the patients and their families. In 2012, Moonlight Fund Inc. was recognized as the top non-profit in the Nation by Fisher House/Newman’s Own Foundation and is now working towards expansion beyond the State of Texas.
